Notes:This is a heavily modified picture of a movie I was watching entitled 'beyond the rocks' starring Gloria Swanson and Rudolph Valentino. I'm not sure why, but I'm somewhat of an old movie buff. The old movies just seem more real, more /true/, and even more dark then modern Hollywood movies. In any case this movie was a stretch even for me. Filmed in 1922, it must have had a paltry budget by todays standards, and yet the movie would have been a major event of the time. But the thing about this particular movie that fascinates me is how very watchable it is. And although the actors must have lived in what may as well be a completely different planet than I (they are all dead too, which is also a little strange), there isn't anything alien about the movie at all. Indeed, the theme and the basic plot is the same as any movie you will see today. It's strange to think that while there are 85 years separating us from them, all the trials and themes of life are basically the same.
